Construction Kicks-Off at India’s First IGCC Project

Construction began on India’s first IGCC project at the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station in southern India, on July 1. The $226 million, 125-MW clean-coal power plant is being jointly developed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) and Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Co. (APGENCO).

Ottawa City Council Approves Plasco’s Plasma-Gasification/WTE Project

Plasco Energy Group Inc. said that the Ottawa City Council unanimously agreed to issue a letter of intent to Plasco to build, own and operate a 400 ton-per-day waste-conversion facility that will gasify residual household waste to generate 21-MW of net saleable base-load power for delivery to Hydro Ottawa.

Cash Creek Selects DPT’s Methanation Technology for Kentucky SNG Project

Davy Process Technology (DPT) was awarded contracts from Cash Creek Generation LLC (CCG) for the supply of a technology license and basic engineering design for the methanation unit that will produce substitute natural gas (SNG) from coal-derived syngas at CCG’s SNG/power project in Henderson County, KY.

EIA: World Energy Use Projected to Grow 50% in 25 Years, Unconventional Fuels Accounting for 9% of Supply by 2030

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) released the International Energy Outlook 2008 (IEO2008) on June 25, 2008. EIA forecasts that global energy consumption will grow by 50% between 2005 and 2030 and will be driven by robust economic growth and expanding populations in developing countries.
